(English Subs) Redhack on Halk TV – Occupy Gezi & The Current State

This video has a clear image of what’s really happening  in Occupy Gezi

(This will be a 3 part series) This was made with the help of the author of this blog: http://redhackenglish.tumblr.com/ (I translated the first 12 minutes, the rest is 80% her work with some proof reading/tweaks by me). This Interview from Turkish Hacker group, Redhack, starts by explaining some of the background regarding the Occupy Gezi movement, and then proceeds to go into great detail regarding the Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government and its shortcomings.

In this series Redhack will deal with issues like censorship, oppression, increasingly authoritarian rule, the selling of the nation’s natural resources, the diminishing state of the Arts, environmentalism, women’s rights, elections, and a myriad of other issues that most Turkish and International viewers will be under-informed about.

I have disabled comments as to avoid pointless debates, if you want to learn more about the issues discussed I’m sure a bit of digging around online will help you find answers. I want this to be purely educational, so just watch, and I hope you learn something. For international audiences, this can be a chance for you to understand just what is happening in Turkey, and you will no doubt be able to draw some parallels to the state of your own governments.

and how their increasingly oppressive and authoritarian mentality has caused a build up of unrest which exploded on May 31st, and is still spreading like wildfire across the nation.

I apologize in advance for any translation errors, but based on my proof-reading there should not be anything grossly mis-translated, if you spot anything that might be misinformative please send me a PM and I will try to add annotations to fix this.

Tears for Fears: US cashes in on teargas amid Turkey brutal turmoil

Protesters made fresh attempts to reach the Prime Minister’s office with at least 50 being arrested.

Reports also say dozens of homes were raided, and at least 25 people detained for using social media.

The internet has been used to share information and vent anger against the government.

Human rights groups and some foreign officials, including the US Secretary of State, have condemned the excessive use of force by Turkish police.

‘Erdogan’s creeping Islamisation deepens divide among Turks’

Turkey’s Prime Minister is looking unlikely to ease his hardline stance towards the swelling nationwide protest against him.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the movement’s illegal and accuses its members of brutality and provocation as he addressed a cheering crowd of his supporters after returning from a trip to North Africa.

Some of those who gathered at the airport chanted: ‘Let us go, let’s crush Taksim’.

Anonymous #opTurkey (Government of Turkey)

Greetings Government of Turkey,

We are Anonymous.

We have watched for days with horror as our brothers and sisters in Turkey who are peacefully rising up against their tyrannical government have been brutalized, beaten, run over with riot vehicles, shot with water cannons and gassed in the streets. From the epicenter of their revolution in Taksim Square to every city in Turkey, the people have spoken. Hundreds of thousands have taken and held the streets for days, despite the relentless assault of the police. Thousands have been arrested. Where differ you exactly from a Junta!

Turkey is supposed to be a so called “modern” democracy, but the Turkish government behaves like the petty dictators in China or Iran. Anonymous is outraged by this behavior, and we will unite across the globe and bring the Turkish government to it’s knees. We will attack every internet and communications asset of the Turkish government. You have censored social media and other communications of your people in order to suppress the knowledge of your crimes against them. Now Anonymous will shut you down, and your own people will remove you from power.

We have seen in the past your totalitarianism the same as with Mubarak you know what happend to him don’t do this to ur own people bee wise and step down and let the people decide there fate.

To the people of Turkey No matter how dark it may seem, no matter how alone and abandoned you may feel know that the world is watching. Know that anonymous is working tirelessly around the clock to bring you every assistance., know that Anonymous stands with you in this fight. Don’t be ruled by them but rule over them “Think For Yourself, Question Authority” .

We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Government of Turkey, it is too late to Expect us
